At Oceano Dive Centre, the NAUI Open Water SCUBA Diver course consists of three main phases:

  • Theory. This academic training will help you understand the basic principles of SCUBA diving first at home doing an e-learning then a review in our classroom with your instructor.
  • Pool. That is where we do all the swimming part of the training.
  • Confined Water Dives. You will learn in a confined water environment how to use all the snorkelling and SCUBA gear safely and comfortably.
  • Open Water Dives. You complete your certification by doing a minimum of 4 open water dives in the ocean to demonstrate what you've learned under real diving conditions.

During your confined water dives, you will learn how to assemble, operate and break down your SCUBA kit. You will also learn basic SCUBA skills such as mask and regulator clearing, buoyancy control, emergency air management, basic rescue skills and dive planning. Later, you will demonstrate all of these skills in your Open Water Dives.

When you complete this course, you will receive the NAUI Open Water Diver e-certification. This certification level allows you to participate in many unsupervised dive activities worldwide. You will probably want to take additional training later, but the NAUI Open Water Diver certification will send you on your way to many exciting underwater adventures, this is just the first step.
